Located in the county of Caerphilly, south-east Wales, Risca (Rhisga in Welsh) is a former mining and steelworks town with a strong industrial heritage. The name of the town is thought to refer to either “the lower field” (yr is cae in Welsh) “field or rushes” (yr hesg cae) or “oak bark” (rhisgl) of the area’s natural landscape.
Surrounded by the stunning scenery of Cwmcarn Forest and the Mynydd Machen and Twmbarlwm hills which are popular with outdoor enthusiasts, hikers and mountain bikers, Risca also boasts good transport links via road and rail to nearby Newport, Cardiff, Caerphilly and beyond.
House prices are also very competitive. Properties in Risca had an average price of around £200,000 over the last year, significantly less than the national average and the South Wales region overall.
