Despite heavy bombing during World War 2,\nIslington has become an upmarket residential area with a buzzing cultural scene\nof impressive eateries, more independent retailers than you could shake a stick\nat plus cosy pubs, lively bars and a penchant for fringe theatre.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hotspot for families due to great schools and plenty of child friendly entertainment on the doorstep, commuters also love Zone 2 Islington thanks to its great range of transport links which will have you in central London in less than 10 minutes. The area is also popular with politicians, particularly the liberal elite. Former Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Boris Johnson have both lived in the area, and Jeremy Corbyn is a long-standing local resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst certainly not the cheapest part of London when it comes to house prices, Islington is on a par with the borough overall and offers better value than the pricey EC2 area and nearby Barnsbury, Canonbury and Highbury. Keep reading!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wherever you\nare headed there is a route available from Islington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zone 2 Highbury\n&amp; Islington station offers regular services on the Highbury &amp; Islington\nbranch of the Overground and the Victoria Line between Walthamstow Central and\nBrixton. &nbsp;Angel underground station is on\nthe Bank branch of the Northern Line. Nearby Essex Road train station is on the\nNorthern City rail line with connections to Moorgate in less than 8 minutes, or\nnorth to Welwyn Garden City in 40 minutes and Hertford North in around 40 minutes.\nCanonbury station is on the Overground\u2019s North London and East London Lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Islington is\nalso home to a number of local bus <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/bus\/stop\/490G00008515\/islington-green\/?Input=Islington+Green\">services<\/a> towards destinations across the capital\nincluding the Barbican, Holborn, Kings Cross, Moorgate, Dalston and Newington\nGreen and there are regular night buses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fans of the two-wheel commute use the cycle paths along Regent\u2019s Canal between Islington and nearby Hoxton. Islington Council also offer a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.islington.gov.uk\/roads\/cycling\">initiatives<\/a> to get people cycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the first place in the UK to introduce a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-london-15884305\">20mph speed limit<\/a> for drivers on side roads in 2012, Islington has extended this speed limit to the vast majority of main roads locally now, too. If you do need to drive, the A1 between London and Edinburgh runs straight through Islington and the A501 London Inner Ring Road crosses through Islington to the south. As has <a href=\"https:\/\/thebridgetrust.academy\/our-schools\/integrated-learning-space\/\">The Bridge Integrated Learning Space<\/a> which provides specialist SEN education for pupils aged 7-19 with severe learning difficulties and\/or autism. Head to Upper Street for the best selection of independent retailers like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twentytwentyone.com\/\">Twentytwentyone<\/a> furniture store, <a href=\"https:\/\/afternoah.com\/\">After Noah<\/a> for vintage and contemporary homewares and <a href=\"https:\/\/colibri.boutique\/\">Colibri Boutique<\/a>. Or check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camdenpassageislington.co.uk\/\">Camden Passage<\/a> for some impressive antiquing and the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/exmouth.london\/\">Exmouth Market<\/a> for a little bit of everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The area is home to the usual Sainsburys, Tesco, Co-op and Waitrose for essential groceries as well, but locals are also treated to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetorganic.com\/pages\/islington\">Planet Organic<\/a> and an impressive range of deli\u2019s, bakeries and independent grocers to boot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Home to one of the highest concentrations of restaurants and eateries in the UK, foodies will rejoice at the sheer choice on offer in Islington. Indeed, Upper Street is said to house more restaurants than any other street in London.
