The name of the\ntown is thought to refer to either &#8220;the lower field&#8221; (<em>yr is cae<\/em>\nin Welsh) &#8220;field or rushes&#8221; (<em>yr hesg cae<\/em>) or \u201coak bark\u201d (<em>rhisgl<\/em>)\nof the area\u2019s natural landscape. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surrounded by\nthe stunning scenery of Cwmcarn Forest and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mudandroutes.com\/summit\/mynydd-machen\/\">Mynydd Machen<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.landoflegends.wales\/location\/twmbarlwm\">Twmbarlwm<\/a> hills which are popular with outdoor\nenthusiasts, hikers and mountain bikers, Risca also boasts good transport links\nvia road and rail to nearby Newport, Cardiff, Caerphilly and beyond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">House prices are also very competitive.
