Surrounded by the stunning countryside of the Kent\nDowns, the High Weald, and Surrey Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sevenoaks\nis filled with classic Kent architecture, plenty of local amenities, sports\nclubs, and independent retailers. In keeping with its Garden of England\nlocation, Sevenoaks is also home to the impressive Knole\nHouse<\/a> National Trust property which boasts a deer park and 1000\nacres of parkland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historically a market town since the 13th<\/sup> century, Sevenoaks has always been a key destination due to its proximity to central London 21 miles away and its position on a major 18th<\/sup> century toll road. The town remains popular with commuters today, and has become one of the most desirable locations in Kent in recent years. Indeed, Sevenoaks\u2019 direct train line to London makes it perfect for commuters and families looking for a less urban setting, whilst its great restaurants and leisure facilities ensure it has a buzzing atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accordingly, the average house price in the area over the last year was over \u00a3900,000<\/a> which reflects the amenities, outdoor space, transport connections and great schools which the town offers residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sevenoaks is home to a large commuter\npopulation, with the direct train line<\/a> to London being one of the\nmost well used services. Blackfriars and Charing Cross stations can be reached\nin just 40 minutes, and London Bridge in under 30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For local travel connections there are bus services run by Go Coach<\/a> and Arriva<\/a> which connect Sevenoaks to nearby towns and villages. There are also several council-run car parks<\/a> in the town, and with the A25, M25 and A21 all passing close to Sevenoaks, it\u2019s easy to reach both the south of England and the rest of the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International travel is also easy with Gatwick Airport<\/a> just 30 minutes away by car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools\nand education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the things which sets Sevenoaks apart\nfrom other UK towns and cities is the preponderance of independent and grammar schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weald of Kent Grammar School<\/a>, Tonbridge Grammar School<\/a> and St Olave\u2019s and St Saviour\u2019s Grammar School<\/a> are all within 10 miles of Sevenoaks, with numerous independent senior school options within the town, too. Sevenoaks School<\/a>, Solefield School<\/a> and Walthamstow Hall<\/a> all come highly recommended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For younger children there is a wide range of state run and independent primary school options. St Thomas\u2019 Catholic Primary School<\/a>, Lady Boswell\u2019s Church of England Primary School<\/a>, Sevenoaks Primary School<\/a> and Riverhead Infants School<\/a> have all been rated \u2018good\u2019 or \u2018outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted. Popular independent options include The Granville School<\/a> and Sevenoaks Preparatory School<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure\nand Amenities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sevenoaks is a haven for sports fans, with numerous clubs and sports centres in and around the area. There\u2019s a leisure centre<\/a> with a swimming pool and full programme of classes, as well as three golf clubs. Wildernesse<\/a>, Knole Park<\/a> and Darenth Valley<\/a> are well known for their beautiful views and busy clubhouses which act as hubs of the community. The Vine Club<\/a> is home to the local cricket and hockey club, and Sevenoaks has one of the country\u2019s best women\u2019s basketball teams, the Sevenoaks Suns<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If shopping is more your thing, Sevenoaks is full of great independent retailers and high street brands. Bligh\u2019s Meadow<\/a> is a shopping centre in the town, with London Road, the High Street and the surrounding cobbled alleyways (nicknamed The Shambles<\/a>) providing plenty of mainstream and indie outlets. There are also weekly markets<\/a> on Wednesdays and Saturdays, selling fresh produce, flowers, and meat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents and visitors alike can soak up some\nculture at The\nStag Theatre<\/a>, which also houses a cinema and a cafe. It runs on a\nnot-for-profit basis and is staffed mainly by volunteers, putting on live shows\nthroughout the year as well as showing films and streaming performances from\nthe National Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foodies are spoilt for choice with a selection of high-quality restaurants to suit all palates. There\u2019s steakhouse Branded<\/a>, Giggling Squid<\/a> for Thai cuisine, and Seven Oaks Meze<\/a> for Turkish and Greek mezze. If you\u2019re looking for coffee and cake, head to Buntastic<\/a> or Willow and Bean<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s\nOn<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sevenoaks is well known for its stately homes\nand gardens, with several historic destinations nearby. The most notable is Knole<\/a> House, which has been a part of Kent\u2019s\nheritage for over 400 years. Visitors can enjoy tours of the grounds and\ngardens, stop for refreshments at the caf\u00e9 and explore the house\u2019s impressive collections.\nLullingstone Roman Villa<\/a> also offers\nactivities to visitors all year round and is one of the best-preserved Roman\nvillas of its kind remaining in the UK. Scenic Riverhill\nHimalayan Gardens<\/a> offers different activities and events depending\non the seasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to a rich heritage, Sevenoaks also has plenty of cultural events to offer residents. Sevenoaks Music Club<\/a> puts on chamber music concerts throughout the year, often performing at Walthamstow Hall School<\/a> in their Ship Theatre. There\u2019s also Westerham Rocks<\/a>, a rock music festival held at the Kings Hotel each year. The Kent County Show<\/a> is another summer highlight, showcasing the best of the county\u2019s countryside with animal shows, heritage vehicles, a fairground and food from local suppliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For families, Eagle\nHeights Wildlife Reserve<\/a> puts on regular birds of prey shows with\nits impressive collection of over 100 birds. They are also home to lots of\nother animals including meerkats, huskies, farm animals and reptiles, and carry\nout conservation work to protect species both in the UK and abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crime\nand Safety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Reassuringly for prospective residents, the\ncrime rate in Sevenoaks is lower than average in comparison to the rest of Kent,\nwith the Kent policing team focusing on the needs of the local population and\nusing targeted schemes to reduce and combat crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sevenoaks District Community Safety Partnership<\/a>\nand the District\u2019s Community Safety Unit comprise of a number of programmes and\norganisations aimed at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour. They are\nbacked up by a number of Neighbourhood Watch<\/a> schemes set up by residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
