Primarily a small, rural settlement, Rugby, like the rest of Warwickshire, saw great expansion with the arrival of the railway in the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century and is now Warwickshire\u2019s second largest town (after Nuneaton).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rated\nthe best West Midlands town for quality of life (and 15<sup>th<\/sup> overall in\nthe UK) in a 2020 Halifax survey, today\u2019s homeowners are attracted to Rugby\nthanks to some impressive transport links to UK hubs like Coventry, Birmingham\nand London in less than an hour, a great range of state, private and grammar\nschools and the stunning Warwickshire countryside on the doorstep. House prices\naren\u2019t bad either! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed,\nthe town had an average property price of \u00a3275,097 over the last 12 months. This\nis significantly more affordable than the county of Warwickshire overall (\u00a3332,470)\nand pricey Berkswell (\u00a31,105,000), Tanworth-In-Arden (\u00a31,030,765), or\nneighbouring Kenilworth (\u00a3446,084) in particular. Areas such as Dunchurch, Clifton\nupon Dunsmore, Cawston, Barby, Thurlaston and nearby Ashby St Ledgers are\nparticularly sought after. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rugby boasts great transport connects by rail\nand road and is easily accessible from the rest of the UK thanks to its central\nlocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rugby train station\nis on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk\/\">West\nCoast Main Line<\/a>, with direct services to London in less than 50\nminutes and Birmingham in a speedy 17 minutes. There are also regular services\nto the likes of Northampton, Coventry, Stafford, Manchester, and Edinburgh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For drivers, Rugby\nhas close links to the motorway network via the M1, M6 and M45 and a number of\nA roads. Abbots Farm Junior School, Arden\nForest Infant School, Clifton-upon-Dunsmore CofE Primary School and Hillmorton\nPrimary School all received an \u2018outstanding\u2019 rating from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk\/\">Ofsted<\/a> in\ntheir latest inspections and the vast majority of other local primary schools\nreceived a \u2018good\u2019 rating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For secondary\nschool pupils there are several good comprehensive schools in the town, as well\nas a number of popular grammar and independent options. Ashlawn School, Bilton\nSchool and Rugby Free Secondary School all come highly recommended. Ashlawn\nSchool in particular is rated \u2018outstanding\u2019 by Ofsted and offers one class of\nup to 31 students who are allocated places in line with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warwickshire.gov.uk\/grammar-schools-11-test\/grammar-schools-warwickshire\/1\">11+\ntest results<\/a> and follow a slightly different curriculum to the rest of the\nyear group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selective grammar\nschools Lawrence Sheriff (for boys) and Rugby High School (for girls) both offer\nsingle sex education from 11-16 and co-educational educational from 16-18. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Co-educational, independent\nschool Rugby School was founded in 1567 and it was former pupil William Webb\nEllis who famously created the game of rugby football during a normal football\nmatch in 1823 when he picked up the ball and ran with it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to further and higher education, the West Midlands region\nis home to a number of highly rated colleges and universities as well,\nincluding the <a href=\"https:\/\/warwick.ac.uk\/\">University of Warwick<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coventry.ac.uk\/\">Coventry University<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birmingham.ac.uk\/index.aspx\">University of Birmingham<\/a> to name a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leisure and amenities <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst Birmingham, Coventry and Northampton are only down the\nroad, Rugby has all the essential amenities you could need on the doorstep\nincluding an impressive selection of independent retailers, bars, and eateries. Local favourites\ninclude <a href=\"https:\/\/thenestrugby.com\/\">The Nest<\/a>, a zero waste and plastic free giftshop which offers wares\nfrom more than 25 local crafters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheeseonthegreen.com\/\">Cheese\non the Green<\/a> (the clue\nis in the name!) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sassstyle.co.uk\/\">Sass<\/a> clothing. Foodies will appreciate artisanal deli and caterer <a href=\"https:\/\/cvckitchen.co.uk\/\">CVC Kitchen<\/a>, award-winning <a href=\"https:\/\/cafevincinq.com\/\">Caf\u00e9 Vin Cinq<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontherocksrugby.co.uk\/\">On the\nRocks<\/a> steakhouse,\nwhere, as the name suggests, you food is cooked at your table on individual hot\nvolcanic stone plates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therugbytown.co.uk\/info\/2\/shopping\/10008\/town_centre_markets\">market<\/a> runs every Friday and Saturday selling fresh produce,\nflowers, homewares, household items, crafts and deli foods too and there is a\nmonthly farmer\u2019s market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Elliott\u2019s\nField and Junction One retail parks are well-stocked with high street offerings\nlike TK Maxx, Boots, Curry\u2019s, Sports Direct, Marks &amp; Spencer and Halfords\nand Junction One also boasts a nine screen Cineworld cinema and various\neateries. There are several large supermarkets located throughout the town too.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite\nits industrial heritage, there is a surprising amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugby.gov.uk\/directory\/2\/parks_and_open_spaces\">green,\noutdoor space<\/a> on the doorstep in Rugby, including Caldecott Park, Cawston\nneighbourhood play area and <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Centenary Park. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stwater.co.uk\/our-visitor-sites\/draycote-water\/\">Draycote\nWater<\/a> reservoir and country park and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warwickshirewildlifetrust.org.uk\/SwiftValley\">Swift Valley\nCountry Park<\/a> are also nearby. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s on?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you would expect, the sport of rugby is\nstill a popular local pastime and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therugbyfootballmuseum.co.uk\/\">The Webb Ellis Rugby Football\nMuseum<\/a> is a must visit for fans of the egg-shaped ball, as is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therugbytown.co.uk\/info\/10011\/tours_and_itineraries\/10104\/rugbys_public_art\">rugby\nball art trail<\/a>. There are also a number of other clubs and activities\navailable locally including golf, football, martial arts, gymnastics, indoor\nbowls, athletics, running and cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Culture vultures will be right at home in\nRugby too, with a number of theatres, galleries, and live venues in the city.\nThis includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ragm.co.uk\/\">Rugby Art Gallery and\nMuseum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbytheatre.co.uk\/\">Rugby Theatre<\/a>, Benn\nHall and <a href=\"https:\/\/macreadytheatre.co.uk\/\">the Macready Theatre<\/a> plus\na great selection of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therugbytown.co.uk\/info\/5\/discovering\/10113\/heritage_open_days\">Heritage\nOpen Days<\/a> each year and various open mic and live music sessions at bars\nand clubs throughout the town. The ever popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefestivalontheclose.co.uk\/\">Festival on The Close<\/a> \u2013 an\nannual celebration of arts, culture and creativity \u2013 and <a href=\"https:\/\/rugbyfirst.org\/foodfest\/\">Rugby Food and Drink Festival<\/a> also\ndraw the crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Crime and safety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rugby is considered one of the safest areas in\nWarwickshireand falls under the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.warwickshire.police.uk\/area\/your-area\/warwickshire\/rugby-borough\/\">Warwickshire\nPolice force<\/a> with dedicated teams covering both rural and town centre\nlocations.
