{"id":3952,"date":"2023-05-25T09:48:17","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T09:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yopa.co.uk\/homeowners-hub\/?p=3952"},"modified":"2023-05-25T09:48:17","modified_gmt":"2023-05-25T09:48:17","slug":"fantasy-valuation-sandringham-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dy36.stage.yopa-dev.co.uk\/homeowners-hub\/fantasy-valuation-sandringham-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Fantasy Valuation: Sandringham House"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the Duchy\nof Cornwall, the Duchy of Lancaster and the Crown Estate estimated to be worth\naround \u00a320 billion \u2013 much of which relates to property \u2013 and a personal fortune\nestimated to be in the region of \u00a3600 million according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/king-charles-net-worth-sunday-times-rich-list-wxt8nc3hh\">Sunday Times<\/a>, King Charles\nIII certainly has his pick of places to lay his head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, whilst\nthe King is privy to the use of around seven palaces, 10 castles, 12 homes, and\n56 holiday cottages according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/\">Forbes<\/a>, many of these\nproperties, such as Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and his main London\nresidence, Clarence House, actually belong to the Crown and not the reigning Monarch.\nEven his beloved 18<sup>th<\/sup> century Georgian Manor in Gloucestershire,\nHighgrove House, belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall rather than to King Charles\nhimself. This means that if he does continue to use the property as King, he\nwill be paying an annual rental fee of around \u00a3700,000 per annum to the current\nPrince of Wales and beneficiary of the Duchy of Cornwall, his eldest son\nWilliam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next property in our fantasy valuation series is one of two exceptions which belong to the Monarch himself \u2013 Sandringham House in the village of the same name in Norfolk. Most commonly known today as the scene of the Windsor Christmas\ngathering (and it was from Sandringham that the first Royal Christmas message\nwas broadcast by King George V in 1932), Grade II listed Sandringham House and\nEstate is located in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and dates\nback to 1771, although there had been a manor house on the site since the 16<sup>th<\/sup>\ncentury and a settlement dating back to Roman times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The property first came into the royal fold in 1862, when the house and around 8,000 acres was bought by the current King\u2019s third great-grandfather, the future King Edward VII, as a country residence for \u00a3220,000. Extensively redeveloped into the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century, the house passed from father to eldest son (and heir to the throne) before being purchased by King George VI jointly with Balmoral Castle for the sum of \u00a3300,000 when his elder brother King Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936.
